Anthills of the Savannah – Chinua Achebe
One of my favourite African novels, Anthills of the Savannah is a powerful meditation on leadership, power, identity and the responsibility of those entrusted with authority.
What stays with me is Achebe’s exploration of the relationship between power and storytelling; in particular, who gets to tell the story, whose voice are heard, and what happens when leadership loses its connection to the people it is meant to serve.
